Amber

Amber-4Amber-2Amber-3Downtown Phoenix has my heart. There are endless photo ops that give a senior the opportunity to have unique photos unlike their friends. Amber had a thought in mind of what she wanted her back drop to be so we decided to go to Arizona Center and it was perfect!

When she showed me her outfits, I got some ideas of the spots I would take her for the look she was going for. It was fun to see her personality come through as we got further into her session.

When she put on her last outfit, I wanted to really add the 70’s vibe into the edit of the photos.

My edit comes souly from the feel of the photo itself. If a photo has a playful feel, I will edit accordingly. This one session had two totally different feels and I really wanted to showcase them both. I think we definitely nailed the look she wanted by doing this.

My senior has variety in her session and I can not wait for her to receive her photos!

Mila

Mila and her brother combined their senior sessions at DC Ranch Marketplace over the weekend. Mila is graduating from high school and Clayton, who graduated from NAU this year. Mom wanted them to have photos together in their cap and gowns which worked out great! (Clayton’s post will be next)

After Clayton’s session was done, we focused on Mila. When I first asked Mila where she wanted her photos to be done, she told me she really wanted a  field with flowers which is pretty much every senior girls dream session that lives in Arizona because there are no fields of flowers here! (Unless I am missing them, someone please tell me!!) She decided she would be ok with her alternative which was more of a industrial look with cool walls, etc. As we were walking around, we started seeing bloom after bloom of different cactus flowers. This is the time of year in Arizona where all the colors start to show! Needless to say, Mila got her flowers! I think it was better than a field!

Graduation is a little over a month away for Mila and she is super excited. I remember taking her homecoming photos her freshman year like it was yesterday. These four years were a blink. Mila is a beautiful girl and I am so excited for her and her future!

Family, portrait photography

L Family

Becoming a blended family is not an easy task. I have a blended family of my own and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.  It requires a lot of patience, love, and guidance from God. When a couple starts out their relationship with children, they do not get the full “courtship” that they would without. They may get a date here and a date there. The anxiety of introducing the kids is hard enough, then hoping they all get along. Dates become family gatherings with the hopes of a kiss or two in between. The love is usually pretty immense with a second marriage because it’s not only love for one another, it’s love for each others children as well. A blended relationship works backwards too. The family starts first. Watching them grow up and go off to college, then the alone time begins. There are challenges along the way and many bumps in the road, but the end result is totally worth it.

Joanna met Tom at work. He had come into the office she worked at for computer reasons and asked her on a date. They had a wonderful time and Tom knew after the first date he wanted to marry her.

Tom had a beautiful proposal set up. A romantic evening for two. The babysitter was set, the dinner reservations were made, they were all dressed up. Tom was sweating, though. They were on their way to dinner and there was one thing missing, the ring. When he received the call, finally, that the ring was finished it was better late than never. Since Tom had Joanna in the car, he took her in the jewelry store and proposed to her right there! Proposals like these always make the best stories!

They ended up getting married 2 and a half years later with a small intimate gathering of family and friends to celebrate their life journey. A year has gone by and they are still in the “honeymoon” phase. They are handling a blended family beautifully and are looking forward to many years of lasting memories!

If you add in their “blended dogs” to the family, they are a modern day Brady bunch! Together they have 5 kids and 3 dogs! The kids are 15, 13, 12, 10 and 8. The awesome part is that they all get along! Maybe too well because they bicker and argue like real siblings too! Which is truly what a blended couple pray for every day. During our photo session, I could see the happiness from mom and dad and the kids! They are truly a happily blended family!

I wish this family all the joy life will bring them and all that God will bless them with!

Kieran & Lynn

These two are best friends and wanted to have their senior sessions together. I was all for it! They started with hair and makeup and we ended up at Scorpion Gulch at South Mountain. I had never been there before and I was so excited to shoot at a new location. It was beautiful too!!

The girls wanted to have photos together describing their friendship. They had specific poses they wanted to do and even when they were pretending to choke each other, the one thing that stood out the most was the realness of their friendship. They are total opposites in so much of their personalities which is why they probably get along so well!

They had so much fun having the session together. They helped make each other laugh and pose and assist in each others photos. There was no shortage of smiles either!

The girls goals and dreams will keep them close to each other after they graduate. But no matter where life takes them, I believe their friendship will always be strong!

Nyssa

Have I ever told you all how much I love my job?? Seniors like Nyssa put a smile on my face and remind me everyday of the passion I have for what I do! Not only do I love to produce amazing images for my seniors and their parents, I also get to know these amazing young people and how much this generation will make a difference in our future!

Thank goodness the clouds parted ways for her session but it was COLD! There was a definite 20 degree difference in the sun versus the shade. I told Nyssa to keep jumping up and down, running, anything to stay warm! Her feet were numb but only because she was wearing her moms shoes that were a size and a half too small! But hey! Beauty is pain and the heels looked so cute on her!

Her brother was a great assistant for me and learned how to use the reflector perfectly! And this session made it real for mom that in a few short months she will be a high school graduate and will be off to the air force!

This session was beautiful and I am so glad to have met Nyssa and her family!

Nylah

Road trips are always an amazing way to have a memorable senior session! That is exactly what Nylah did! We started at the White tank mountains and ended up in Flagstaff where in a few short months, she will be living! We found a laundry mat during our  trip and thought it would be fun to get creative and get something totally unique added to her shoot!

Nylah’s biggest request was the snow! She needed that to make her session perfect. This winter has been so mild that we were very nervous about making that happen. She was overjoyed when we found patches of it!! It was enough to make her so happy! She was in her own world which made for some adorable shots!

Even though Nylah is one of my senior reps, I had fun spending the day together getting to know her even more! She is the sweetest girl, so excited about moving to Flagstaff and I can already see what an awesome “little” adult she will be! She will have no problem with living in the snow either!

Make sure to click on the photos to enlarge them! She has the most electric blue eyes I have ever seen!!

Engagement Session

Robert & Kelly

This engagement session was absolutely beautiful. These two will say I do later this fall and I am honored to be their photographer for their big day!

I have known Robert and his family for many years now. In fact, Robert was one of my senior sessions almost 6 years ago now! I was also there to get photos for his junior and senior prom! Kelly was also in those junior and senior prom photos with a different date!

Kelly and Robert were best friends in high school. They maintained their friendship after they graduated and ended up falling in love. You can totally feel the connection they have when you are in their presence.  They wanted that to come through in their photos as well.

The session was amazing! Every shot was better than the first! Their emotion in every image is so energizing. As we walked around the location, Kelly spotted a rock in the shape of a heart! Too cute, right? I made sure to capture every image they were looking for. They were overjoyed with the finished product!

Check out my testimonial page to see how Kelly felt about her engagement session!

Kaycee

I’m sure by now everyone knows who my kids are! This one is my senior this year! Fun fact: She does not like taking pictures that much! She was the reason I started photography! I was the typical mom having her first baby and wanting to capture every second of her life! She was like my real life Barbie doll. I would put her in all different outfits and take pictures of her.

You see, my husband and I have his, hers, and ours. Kaycee and I met Kylee when she was 6 and at that time Kaycee was 2. That was in 2002. Then, Clint and I were married in 2003 and had Maddie in 2004. From then on, I had 3 gorgeous models that I could photograph any time I wanted! If I was searching for a new location, I would tell them to dress up and we would have a photo shoot! (that would actually be a fun post to share! The girls would probably kill me!)

Anyways, Kaycee is the one that will give me 30 minutes and then be done. But she is also a huge supporter of my photography! So of course, it’s not just one senior session. I have to split them up into 30 minute sessions! LOL This being the first. Her boyfriend was in this shoot which will be a later post!

Ok, I am rambling! Kaycee is one of the strongest kids I have ever known. She has a deep routed passion for Christ and centers her life around Him. She knows that He has huge plans for her and is so ready for the next adventure, NAU! She will be moving to Flagstaff in the fall and I am so proud of her. She is definitely the type of girl that really doesn’t know how beautiful she is!

couples

Kylee and Cody

Another name for this couple, Barbie and Ken! I mean seriously?? And I am not bias either! Not only are they a great looking couple, they are two of the most grounded young adults I have ever met! They have beautiful hearts and I am so proud of them every day!

This shoot was much overdue and again, so ridiculously excited to be finally sharing these! This was another session that just sent my creativity through the roof! Since I know these two pretty well (LOL) we made sure to capture it all. I think we did every pose imaginable! This session showcased their love for each other, their playfulness towards one another and their affection they have shared for 4 years.

Kylee and I discussed the ideas she had for their photo session. I had told her I was wanting to create something new and creative and she was open to let me add in my ideas as well. When she saw her finished product, it was exactly what she envisioned in her mind! She was ecstatic! So was I, of course! If you follow Kylee on Instagram, you would have already seen some of these photos because I could not hold her back from posting. I, on the other hand, wanted to wait to add them to my new creativity for 2018!

I can’t really put into words yet what these sessions have done for me, for my confidence, for my excitement for photography. I am beyond enthusiastic about what this year will hold!!

High School Senior Photography

Ariana

I have SO much to say about this session! The first blog post of 2018 to visually show the creative high I am on! Ariana’s mom and I went to high school together and boy has senior photos come a long way since our day! By the way, we are not that old either!  Wicker chairs do not describe personalities very well! Todays senior portrait sessions are meant to show off the true character of the senior and their qualities and aspirations.

I think this shoot did just that for Ariana! Her session was the first time I had met her although we chatted through text leading up to the day. She was a bit nervous because she felt as though she was not the photogenic type. She explained to me what she was looking for in her session and we talked about what she was passionate about. She is a beautiful singer! I told her that was something we needed to incorporate because it makes her who she is. She agreed!

We decided on downtown Phoenix and leaned towards a more artistic vibe, another part of Ariana’s persona. I love starting at one area and just wondering around finding new little places that would fit the feel. We totally lucked out! As we were walking, Ariana spotted a record store. Of course, the outside had some awesome art on the walls. Then we decided to go inside and grab a couple shots. I am so glad we did. They are some of my favorites!

The styles Ariana chose were true to who she is, however, she went a step further with her accessories which tied the whole session together. She also had her hair color corrected prior to her shoot which made her so much happier coming into her session. Check out https://www.instagram.com/vividhaircreations/ to see her transformation!

Ariana left her senior photo shoot feeling so confident in her portraits. She was comfortable and relaxed and by mid session she was a pro at posing! I don’t think she will ever say again that she is not photogenic!

She is a beautiful young lady with an amazing spirit! She is active in her community with helping others and being a blessing to those around her. She is very excited about the next chapter in her life and I am thrilled to continue to be her photographer in the coming years!
